Harold O. Steidel, 69, of St. Joseph, passed away Monday, May 11, 2026, at Mosaic Life Care. He was born Oct. 5, 1956, in St. Joseph, son of Shirley (Auxier) and Norman Steidel.
He was a 1975 graduate of Lafayette High School where he was on the wrestling and debate teams. Harold was a life long member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in St. Joseph. Harold was a retired plumber and before that worked for the St. Joseph Parks Department, where he maintained the city's fountains and pools.
He enjoyed traveling, flea markets and farmers markets. He enjoyed watching the game show network and the food network. His favorite foods were steaks, baked potato's and cheeseburgers. If Harold had not opted for cremation, his tombstone would have read, "What's for Supper?" Harold was also a Green Bay Packers fan and bravely wore his Packers t-shirt here in Chiefs Country.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sabrina (Steidel) Bratton.
Survivors include wife, Susan Steidel of the home; sister, Vanessa (Steidel) Martin; brother, Marcus Steidel; children, Josh (Gail) Thornton and Owen (Natalie) Steidel, of Lenexa, Kansas; daughter, Stephanie Steidel (Connor Flynn); grandchildren, Madison and Fiona; step-grandchildren, Mary-Anna, Dylan and Dalton; his cat Timothy, AKA Mr. Attitude. Harold also had numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Harold has been cremated under the care of Rupp Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held at noon Saturday, May 16, 2026, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, where the family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests Memorials to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
